A Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office K9 has retired after nearly eight years of service. In October 2009, K9 Hiro began training with Deputy Kevin Skau. Hiro was deployed 1,278 times while working with the sheriff’s office. He located 102 subjects, including criminal suspects and missing persons. He received recognition during the National Police Canine Association (NPCA) Narcotic Detection Trials and in November 2016, along with Deputy Skau, was awarded employee of the month for the sheriff’s office. Hiro will be staying with the Skau family for his retirement.
