A Sarasota attorney running for an open House seat has raised more than $100,000 in her election bid. Democrat Margaret Good is running for the open Sarasota-based House District 72 seat. Good is running against businesswoman Ruta Jouniari in the Democratic primary, which is scheduled for Dec. 5. That seat became vacant in August when Republican Alex Miller announced she was stepping down from the Legislature after less than a year in office, citing family and business reasons. James Buchanan, son of U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, is the lone Republican in the race so far. He had run for the HD 71 seat for months, raising more than $160,000 before switching over to HD 72. The general election is scheduled for February 13.
