Sarasota County (FL) Sheriff’s Office
Newly revised Florida laws will require every sheriff’s office in the state’s 67 counties to establish at least one safe, neutral location where parents who share custody may exchange their children. You will see these new signs in our HQ parking lot at 6010 Cattleridge Blvd. They signify a “neutral safe exchange location” where parents with shared custody of a child and who have a time-sharing parenting plan may meet for child-custody exchanges. These two parking spots are under 24/7 video surveillance.
The law was named for Florida mother Cassie Carli, who went missing in 2022 after meeting her child’s father in a restaurant parking lot during a custody exchange. Her body was discovered weeks later and the father was indicted in connection with her death.
