An SUV in Henrico County, Virginia, drove past a stopped school bus on September 3, and a family’s Ring camera recorded the whole thing. Erin Rebmann was on her porch waiting for her first-grade daughter’s bus when the SUV rolled through, seconds before children stepped off. The bus driver hit the horn. The driver never stopped.
Henrico Police say Virginia law does not allow a citation based solely on camera footage for this violation, so the driver has not been identified or caught. Passing a stopped school bus in Virginia carries a fine of up to $250, but enforcement depends on catching the person behind the wheel. Rebmann is now hoping the incident leads to changes like exterior cameras on school buses.
