Republican Florida State Senator Joe Gruters is coming under fire from right-wing groups for proposing the Florida Inclusive Workforce Act, which would make it illegal for an employer to fire someone over their sexual orientation.

The Sarasota Republican told ABC-7 his bill is a bit different from the Florida Competitive Workforce Act, which has been trying to get through the state legislature for the better part of a decade.

Gruters’ bill, though, does not prevent landlords or private businesses from discriminating against people because of their orientation.

The right-wing Florida Family Council is now calling for Gruters to resign as the state Republican party chair, calling him “out-of-step with the Republican Party, Governor Ron DeSantis and President Trump.” The group claims Gruters’ bill “will be used as a weapon to punish Christians.”
