Scientists at Mote say three manatees have now been found dead in Sarasota County in the past week due to red tide.

Mote is helping Florida Fish and Wildlife officials recover dead manatees from the water- the most recent one was brought ashore in Nokomis Tuesday- another was found dead in Venice on Monday.

Mote’s stranding investigations program manager Gretchen Lovewell told ABC-7 it’ll appear that the manatees are intoxicated in the waters if they’re suffering from red tide.

Anyone who sees a manatee in distress is asked to call the FWC.
