Snook season opened in the Gulf over the weekend, but because of the ongoing red tide problem, the fish can’t be kept.

Florida Fish and Wildlife is enforcing catch-and-release rules for species from Anna Maria Island to Collier County.

While the rules -in the short term- are keeping anglers out of the water, some charter captains told ABC-7 that the FWC’s rules will likely help the industry in the long run. That catch and release rule will remain in effect at least until the next FWC meeting on the 26th.
