A bloom of red tide was observed along Charlotte and Lee counties. In Southwest Florida over the past week, K. brevis was observed at background concentrations in one sample collected from Manatee County, background concentrations in one sample collected from Sarasota County, and background to medium concentrations in twelve samples collected from Charlotte County. Fish kills were reported along Lee County as well as slight respiratory irritation. Forecasts for Southwest Florida by the USF-FWC Collaboration for Prediction of Red Tides predict net offshore movement of surface waters and southern, onshore movement of subsurface waters from Pinellas to Lee counties over the next three days.
