The DEP says people statewide keep recycling more and more.

It has released a report showing Florida’s overall recycling rate at 54 percent.

However, that figure includes more than just traditional recycling of items. These include glass and paper.

It also includes the production of energy from garbage.

The state wants to reach 75 percent in four years.

Charlotte and Sarasota counties each have a traditional recycling rate at 59 percent, the highest rate in the region.
