Sarasota County is expanding a pilot program of a Rapid Response EMS truck into Venice.
The point of the program is to have first responders go to scenes and clear those that don’t need transport to a hospital.
The truck that has been in use within the Sarasota city limits has the same equipment and personnel as an ambulance, but is used to free up ambulances for hospital runs.
Over 90 days, officials say in Sarasota, more than 700 calls were made- nearly half of those were able to have people treated at the scene with the Rapid Response truck.
