A Charlotte County cattle ranch owned by the state is now open to the public. The Babcock Ranch Preserve was bought by the state in 2005 for 350-million-dollars as part of the Florida Forever environmental preservation program. The 70-thousand-acre ranch offers recreational biking, hiking and horseback riding.
