Punta Gorda has been ranked as the 10th safest city in Florida, Venice the 12th safest by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.
The group looked at a number of factors in towns with populations from 7,000 to 4 million.
The FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics that the group used had two broad classifications: violent crimes and non-violent crimes.
They computed the total number of crimes reported by each city by adding violent crimes and property crimes.
