Some people in Punta Gorda do not want a new cut-through channel to Charlotte Harbor.
The Vivante has planned to build a new marina and then dredge that channel from its lake to the harbor.
Plans also include a large breakwater wall leading into the new channel.
WBBH-TV reports hundreds have signed a petition against all this. They intend to discuss the issue at city meetings.
The planning commission holds a public hearing Aug. 22. The city council discusses it Sept. 21.
