Punta Gorda Police Chief Tom Lewis will be heading to trial on culpable negligence charges, after all. A judge Tuesday denied his lawyer’s request to dismiss the charges filed against him in connection with last August’s fatal shooting at a citizen’s training academy. The officer who shot and killed 73 year-old Mary Knowlton was fired and faces manslaughter charges. Lewis has been on administrative leave- his trial is scheduled to begin on June 23rd.
