The Punta Gorda Police Officer who shot and killed an elderly woman during a Citizens Training Academy in August will not be getting his job back, after all. The city manager handed down his decision this week, saying Punta Gorda’s HR manager was correct in firing Officer Lee Coel. He had been off the force since March for his role in Mary Knowlton’s death. Coel filed an appeal, but the ruling said that under the applicable disciplinary rules and procedures, the city was correct in firing him.
