Nine people were arrested this week in connection with an illegal alligator poaching ring. Maj. Grant Burton, head of the FWC’s Investigations Section, told WINK-TV that they recovered more than 10,000 alligator eggs that were illegally harvested. More than 40 felony charges were filed in the case. Among those charged was 73-year old David Wentworth Nellis of Punta Gorda. He’s charged with one felony count of Conspiracy to Commit Racketeering, one felony count of Uttering a Forged Instrument, and one felony count of Unlawful Possession of Alligator Eggs.
