Punta Gorda Man Arrested After Firing Into Occupied Home
May 12, 2025 – Punta Gorda, FL
A Punta Gorda man is behind bars after allegedly opening fire on a local residence earlier this month. Authorities have charged 32-year-old Uriah Keyes with multiple felonies following the incident.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 5:00 a.m. on May 7 at a home in the 15000 block of Orangeade Drive. Although the house was occupied at the time, no injuries were reported. Investigators recovered bullet projectiles inside the residence and shell casings from the roadway outside.
The following day, May 8, Manatee County deputies alerted Charlotte County detectives after receiving a tip implicating Keyes in the shooting. He was quickly located and arrested in Manatee County for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and booked into the Manatee County Jail.
Detectives say Keyes had a personal connection to someone living at the targeted home and was allegedly motivated by prior conflicts. After gathering sufficient evidence, Charlotte County authorities secured a warrant for his arrest in connection to the shooting.
Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell credited swift cooperation between agencies for the rapid arrest.
“Thanks to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement, this individual was in handcuffs less than 24 hours after the shooting occurred,” said Sheriff Prummell. “It is truly a miracle no one was hurt by his reckless actions. Charlotte County can rest easy knowing he is behind bars where he belongs.”
Keyes had only recently been released from the Florida Department of Corrections in December 2024. He now faces multiple felony charges stemming from both Charlotte and Manatee counties and remains in custody at the Manatee County Jail.
