Progressive Groups Protest Trump in Sarasota-Manatee as Nation Celebrates Flag Day and U.S. Army Anniversary

Progressive activists will gather in Sarasota and Manatee counties on Saturday, June 14, joining nearly 2,000 “No Kings” protests nationwide. The rallies, coordinated by left-wing group INDIVISABLE, aim to oppose President Donald Trump and his policies during his second term.

Organizers chose the date to coincide with Flag Day, the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, and President Trump’s birthday—highlighting a stark contrast between patriotic celebration and political resistance.

Despite the protests, enthusiasm is building for the military parade in Washington, D.C., expected to span six blocks along the National Mall. Trump called it an “unforgettable” event in a June 6 video on Truth Social.

In Florida alone, over 75 protests are planned. Local protest sites and times include:

  • Ellenton (Rocky Bluff Library): 9 – 10:30 a.m.

  • Englewood (Dearborn St. & Indiana Ave): 9 – 10:30 a.m.

  • Sarasota (Cattlemen to Honore): 9 – 10:30 a.m.

  • Sarasota (J.D. Hamel Park): 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

  • Venice (Event full; contact organizers)

  • Port Charlotte (U.S. 41 & Murdock Circle): 9 – 10 a.m.

While protesters decry what they call “authoritarian politics,” many Americans are choosing to honor the flag, the military, and a president who continues to inspire passionate support.
