Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a hit-and-run on Monday night in Port Charlotte. According to an arrest report, Jasmine Haney, 22, hit the bicyclist near the Edgewater Drive and Bayshore Road intersection in Charlotte County around 5:15 p.m. Monday.
A CCSO deputy witnessed the crash, which caused a 65-year-old bicyclist to sustain a traumatic brain injury and several other injuries. Surveillance video reportedly shows Haney accelerating away from the scene after the crash. When questioned, she admitted that an ordinary person would have believed they had crashed in the same situation. Haney was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and driving without a valid license.
