A Port Charlotte man, Clayton Waidelich, has been found guilty of trafficking drugs, including fentanyl, amphetamines, and cannabis. The state attorney’s office revealed that the 34-year-old was involved in trafficking over 200 grams of amphetamines, more than 28 grams of fentanyl, and exceeding 20 grams of cannabis. Additionally, Waidelich was convicted of possessing drug paraphernalia.
In a attempt to evade law enforcement, Waidelich was observed flying a drone over his residence during surveillance in a Port Charlotte neighborhood in January 2021. Deputies witnessed multiple vehicles arriving at his driveway, where narcotics were exchanged with individuals inside the vehicles.
Prompted by these suspicious activities, deputies conducted traffic stops, leading to the discovery of various drugs in some of the vehicles. Subsequently, a warrant was obtained for Waidelich’s residence.
Executing the warrant, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, accompanied by SWAT and Marine Units, raided Waidelich’s home, uncovering significant quantities of fentanyl and amphetamines.
Waidelich is set to be sentenced on July 12.
