A Sarasota pet store is heading to court after they refused to obey a judge’s order to stop selling puppies and kittens. Petland and Sarasota County have been going back and forth in court for the better part of 8 months. At issues is whether Petland can continue to operate under new county rules. The case is headed for mediation later this month. Sarasota County approved an ordinance last October prohibiting any pet store from selling animals that have not been bred or raised where they are being sold. The law took effect Jan. 27, and, in response, Petland Sarasota sued the county, arguing it was unconstitutional.
