The North Port Police Department has arrested a man on felony animal abuse charges causing death. Police made a visit to 62-year-old Roman Shkraba’s home where a 12-year-old Cocker Spaniel was having trouble breathing and had sustained injuries from being shot in the head with a BB gun. After the dog was examined by a veterinarian more injuries were discovered. The dog suffered from a fractured jaw, stab wounds and internal injuries. The dog had to be put down and police found the man passed out inside the home. Shkraba is currently in custody in the Sarasota County Jail.
