Nearly a hundred parents and residents turned out for the Sarasota County school board meeting this week, largely to discuss the district’s new non-discrimination policies as it pertains to transgender students.
Many parents told ABC-7 they were upset that they were not included in the policy discussion.

Part of the guidelines say it’s up to the student and the student alone to share his or her identity. In the case of elementary age students, the student and parents are involved on a case-by-case basis.
