Reaction to the non-discrimination policy has been mixed.
Some say they are glad the district is enacting a concrete policy after years of discussion. Others have taken issue with the notion that parents are not required to be part of a child’s “coming-out process” at school.
School Board President Bridget Ziegler told the Herald-Tribune she plans to ask for a policy requiring parental consent for a student to change their gender pronoun, bathroom, or locker-room use.
