OSPREY- An Osprey senior citizen is facing a long list of charges after Sarasota County Sheriff’s Deputies say she threatened members of a rowing team with a rifle while they were in the water behind her home.
Deputies say 62-year old Donna Betts pulled a rifle on the crew team while they were on the dock behind her home on Palmetto Avenue, saying she would shoot them if they came on her property.
A report from the sheriff’s office noted no one ever actually went on Betts’ property. One person captured her threats on a cell phone video, at which point Betts threw the gun into the water. Betts then called 911, saying that “the crew from Sarasota High School have destroyed her life and she has had it.”
She now faces 18 counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
