
Oct. 6 Evening Update | Hurricane Milton is still expected to undergo rapid intensification over the next few days, making landfall on Florida’s west coast as a major hurricane. Storm surge remains the primary concern, posing a serious threat to coastal areas. If evacuating from our county is part of your emergency plan, go now. Delaying evacuation plans may cause you to be stuck in traffic jams. All residents should know where they will evacuate if ordered. You do not have to wait for orders to evacuate. Forecasted rain totals have increased to widespread rainfall of 5” to 10” with localized amounts of 15” possible. A good deal of uncertainty remains on the eventual landfall location.
Key Points:
🌊 Up to 10 feet of storm surge is possible at the point of landfall and areas south. Additional forecast graphics are expected to be issued by tomorrow.
⚠ Watches are now expected to be issued with the 5 AM advisory from the National Hurricane Center.
💨 The timing for tropical storm-force winds has been pushed back slightly. The earliest reasonable arrival is now expected at 8 p.m., Tuesday, with the most likely arrival around 4 a.m., Wednesday. Charlotte County currently has an 84% chance of experiencing tropical storm force winds.
🌧 The potential for flooding rainfall has increased. Expect widespread rainfall of 5” to 10”, with localized areas possibly receiving up to 15”
🌪 Tornadoes are possible beginning Tuesday.
