A North Port woman has been arrested on animal abuse charges after police found a pair of dogs abandoned and malnourished back in July. Sarasota County Animal Services officers were called to a home at Maraldo Drive in North Port after a neighbor called in a complaint. When officers arrived, they found two dogs that were locked in a lanai, covered in feces and urine and without any food or water. It took officials weeks to finally get ahold of the homeowner, 26-year old Kelsy Lewis. She told police the dogs belonged to her boyfriend, who was locked up in the Charlotte County Jail. She said she had not thought to check on the dogs.
