A 20-month-old who was reported missing from her home in North Port is dead after being found in a canal a half mile away.
Police say Ava Perry was playing with an older, toddler sibling in the backyard when she went missing around 1015 yesterday morning.
After her parents searched for nearly an hour, they called police. The body of the little girl was found in the canal nearly 3 hours later, washed downstream.
She was rushed to an area hospital where she was officially pronounced dead. There’s no word yet on if any charges will be filed.
