North Port city commissioners this week agreed to defer impact fees for the proposed Hampton Inn & Suites, the city’s first new hotel in more than 45 years.

The board said they will also look into the idea of deferment as a way to attract other potential businesses to the city.

The vote came on the request from Michigan-based Lodgco Hospitality. The hotelier had asked to skip impact fee payments for a year, then pay them out over the following three years.
