The city of North Port welcomed in new leadership this week when Pete Emrich and Jill Luke were sworn in for their terms as city commissioners.
Luke won a special election runoff last year before winning the recent election to represent Seat 5.
The five city commissioners unanimously voted Chris Hanks mayor and Debbie McDowell vice mayor at their Monday meeting.
The Herald-Tribune reports that Hanks, who has said the City Commission should be considered a part-time job, admitted to being a little surprised at the choice.
