A nine-hour stand-off on Grobe St. in North Port ended peacefully Monday morning. 34-yr-old Roman Melnichuk is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of false imprisonment, two counts of domestic battery, and one count of contributing to the Delinquency of a minor. The North Port Police Department was called to the home shortly after 3am. The suspect refused to come out of the house with his one-year-old baby still inside. At that time, a perimeter was set up. The initial investigation indicated Melnichuk had been drinking alcohol and smoking spice.Melnichuk is also accused of battering a woman inside the home. It was also reported that a sexual battery took place and is still being investigated. At one point, Melnichuk exited the home with a knife and threatened to kill himself befoe going back into the home. Through the course of the morning, the Special Response Team along and Crisis Negotiators were able to convince Melnichuk to give up the child. Hours later, he exited the home without incident.
