New North Port City Attorney Amber Slayton is just one signature away from having the ‘interim’ title dropped. This week, the North Port City Commission unanimously agreed to direct its staff to return with a signed contract for final approval. Working out her contract took nearly four hours to hash out. One of the concessions the commission made was to allow her to live outside the city limits. Slayton and her husband currently live in northern Sarasota County because of his job. Slayton is the city’s second in-house attorney, succeeding Mark Moriarty, whose contract was terminated in May. She was hired in April 2016 as assistant city attorney.
