North Port Police Charge 88-Year-Old Man in Wife’s Homicide

Early Sunday morning, January 26, North Port Police responded to a call in the 2700 block of Halladay Street regarding a reported self-inflicted death. However, after an investigation conducted alongside the District 12 Medical Examiner’s Office, authorities determined the death was not self-inflicted. Evidence revealed the scene had been staged by the suspect.

Miroslav Maksic, 88, has been charged with Homicide in connection with the death of his wife, 76-year-old Miljka Maksic. He was booked into the Sarasota County Jail late Monday night and is being held without bond.

“This is a tragic situation, but I’m thankful for the dedicated work of our investigators and the Medical Examiner’s Office who worked diligently to quickly uncover the truth,” said a North Port Police spokesperson. “Justice for the victim and loved ones is our top priority, and we remain committed to holding those responsible accountable.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
