Police in North Port are investigating after they found more than 20 tons of dumped garbage, including at least 70 tires.

City workers found the dump site on the east side of town. Officials told ABC-7 that dumping is fairly common in the city’s undeveloped areas where homes are few and far between.

They said it took workers from the city’s Solid Waste division nearly the entire day yesterday to pick up the latest mess. Anyone who witnesses any illegal dumping is being asked to call police.
