A North Port man is facing charges after police say his drunk driving -or lack of driving- caused the death of a 63-year old woman.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 26-year old Nicolas Simpson was driving southbound on I-75 around 2am Sunday when he stopped his car in the middle of a lane near the Clark Road exit.
A 30-year old Lehigh Acres man didn’t see Simpson’s car stopped in the middle of the road and rear-ended it at speed.
A passenger in that car, 63-year-old Petruska Marquez was rushed to Doctors Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver, Christopher Marquez, remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Simpson is now charged with a long list of crimes including DUI manslaughter.
