The city of North Port has issued their own separate burn ban effective immediately. The burn ban means outdoor burning is banned within city limits, including campfires, land clearing burning, and pile burns. Outdoor cooking fires in approved grills such as gas or charcoal BBQ grills is allowed, but officials urge extreme caution when using those. Residents should soak charcoal briquets in water after use.
Residents should also take precaution when parking vehicles in tall grass, tossing lit cigarettes, and while mowing. It will stay in effect until it’s rescinded by the fire chief.
