NORTH PORT — North Port city attorneys are appealing a decision that would allow Wellen Park to remove themselves from North Port proper to unincorporated Sarasota County. They have entered an appeal with a higher court to reverse the decision.
A petition was filed Thursday with the Second District Court of Appeal.
Wellen Park members have challenged North Port and its alleged mismanagement of city finances as one of the reasons to leave North Port. The Wellen group began fighting for de-annexation in 2020.
Wellen Park is one of the fastest-growing planned communities in the nation.
