North Port residents will have a new fire chief soon and Wednesday evening all candidates will be in the same place. A meet and greet will take place the North Port City Hall between 5p-7p. Former chief Bill Taaffe retired in February. One of the finalists are interim North Port Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Scott Titus. He has been with the city for nearly 25 years. Other finalists Riviera Beach Fire Chief/Emergency Manager Reginald Duren and Joe Dixon, the assistant fire chief with the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue in Maryland. North Port City Manager Peter Lear will decide, but there is no specific date for the decision.
