A dog from North Port is recovering after being bitten by a rattlesnake while protecting his family in the backyard of their home. Last week, the 9-year-old American Staffordshire was bitten by the snake after it went after some smaller dogs in the yard. The dog, nicknamed Beast, was able to kill the snake. It took his owner nearly 90 minutes to find a vet who carried anti-venom. North Port officials say this is at least the second snake bite in the city in a year.
