North Port’s commissioners want to limit campaign donations far lower than what the state allows.
They want to do this in the middle of an intense election year.
The Herald-Tribune reports that if this happens, then donors can only give $250 per candidate for each election cycle.
The state allows contributions as high as a thousand dollars for city offices.
An incumbent, a former commissioner, and four newcomers have already entered the race for three total seats on the commission in North Port.
The city attorney says the ordinance for this cap could pass as soon as Apr. 26.
