North Port is closing in on a finalized budget and a monster jump in property tax will add $1.5 million in new revenue. The hope is to keep the millage rate the same. If it does, property taxes would account for nearly $16 million of the $36.4 million general fund for fiscal 2017-18. A budget meeting scheduled for July 17 will have numbers that will bring everything into light for the city. The budget as it sits does not include the issue with the proposed Atlanta Braves stadium in the West Villages, which could bring inn $300 thousand per year to North Port alone.
