The Florida Music Education Association has honored the music programs of a pair of Sarasota County middle schools as well as a teacher from Laurel Nokomis Elementary school. Charles Allen received the association’s Music Education Service award, which is given to music teachers who have been active in the field for 25 years or more. Allen was recognized for his 31 years in music. Two schools- Brookside and Woodland- received awards for high enrollment in music courses. At Brookside Middle, nearly 54 percent of all students take a music class. At Woodland, the number is just shy of half at 47 percent.
