If you access the Uber app in the city of Venice, you’ll get a message that service in the area is unavailable. Responding to complaints from residents about the lack of ride-sharing companies, the city has sent out a notice welcoming those businesses. However, they would have to file an application and meet insurance requirements. And Uber is apparently not interested. The Herald-Tribune reports that an Uber spokesman says the severe penalties for violating city regulations–quote–“don’t work for ridesharing.”
