A woman who killed a prosecutor in Charlotte County nearly 35 years ago won’t be getting out of prison early. 64-year old Bonnie Kelly was denied an early release Wednesday. She’s serving a life sentence for the 1982 shooting death of assistant state attorney Eugene “Gene” Berry. Kelly shot Berry at his Charlotte County home because he had put her husband, Wallace Kelly, in jail for drug smuggling.
The earliest Kelly can again go before the Florida Commission on Offender Review is 2022.
