Nicole Downgraded To Tropical Storm
11/10/22

Hurricane Nicole made landfall early Thursday along the east coast of Florida. It has since been downgraded to a tropical storm. Still, much of Florida is still feeling the impacts with strong winds, dangerous storm surge and heavy rain.

Ahead of Nichole, Charlotte, DeSoto and Sarasota county districts closed school. Several county offices closed in anticipation of the storm.

Nicole prompted officials to shut down airports and theme parks and order evacuations. Nicole’s storm surge could continue to erode many beaches hit by Hurricane Ian in September. This large storm is predicted into Georgia and the Carolinas later Thursday and Friday, bringing heavy rain.

Nicole had maximum sustained winds of 70 mph early Thursday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. The storm was about 60 miles southeast of Orlando. It was moving west-northwest near 14 mph.
