A new state law that goes into effect later this summer could have a big effect on where you park your towel on the sand.
The law signed by Governor Scott enforces homeowners’ rights to kick people off their part of the beach, providing their property goes to the waterline. That means that section of beach…may not be open to the public, after all. The law also restricts and supercedes any local government’s ability to contradict the new edict.
Some people, like Joan Dunham-Card, the Past President of the South Manasota Sand Piper Key Association, told ABC-7 all this law does is “drive a wedge between taxpayers visiting the beach and those living on it.”
