Punta Gorda Airport saw an 11 percent increase in passengers in May compared to the year before. More than 97,000 people passed through the airport last month, putting the year-to-date total at more than 1.2 million passengers. Those numbers put Punta Gorda slightly ahead of Sarasota-Bradenton International through the first 5 months of the year. The passenger count is only expected to grow as the year progresses. Allegiant Air recently announced new service to Providence, RI that will start in September.
