A new law that went into effect yesterday in Florida will make it a bit more difficult for the average beachgoer.
The law, which favors property owners, beach-side condos and hotels, states that local governments cannot enact a so-called ‘customary use ordinance.’ Those ordinances have been in place for years in order to preserve public beach access near private property.
Now, though, if property owners so choose, they could block off the beach access behind their home. The new law claims that beachfront property goes all the way to the water line.
