A new law set to take effect Monday will allow hearing impaired people to voluntarily identify themselves as such when they register vehicles. The idea, which came from a Tallahassee police officer whose son is hearing impaired, is intended to prevent communications issues with drivers that could inadvertently lead to confrontations.
