ENGLEWOOD, Fla — After being closed for a month for renovations, Nando’s Taqueria in Englewood reopened on Friday, August 23. However, less than two days later, the restaurant had to close again due to a burglary.
Nando Pina and Erika Nunez have been running Nando’s Taqueria food truck since 2012, serving authentic Mexican food at 2640 S McCall Rd since 2013. Last month, they began converting the food truck into a brick-and-mortar restaurant, which officially opened on Friday.
On Friday, the restaurant opened its doors, and the team celebrated their return to business. They closed on Saturday night and took a much-needed break on Sunday. But when they returned on Monday morning, they discovered the place had been burglarized. The thief had broken in through the front door, stolen cash from the register, taken important documents from the safe, and caused damage to both the building and the food truck.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation, and the restaurant had to close temporarily. After sharing the news on Facebook, the Englewood community offered overwhelming support, and Nando’s Taqueria was able to reopen Monday evening.
